Collective monitoring framework criterion
The collective monitoring framework criterion assesses whether a landscape initiative manages a structured monitoring and reporting system that tracks progress toward collective sustainability impact goals. Effective monitoring ensures transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making.
To assess these aspects, the criterion is divided into three sub-criteria:
Baseline performance assessment and reporting.
Performance monitoring and reporting.
Activity monitoring and reporting.
Baseline performance assessment and reporting sub-criterion
A baseline performance assessment establishes the ecological and socio-economic conditions of the landscape, providing a foundation for measuring progress. Active involvement of local stakeholders in the assessment process helps ensure that diverse perspectives and relevant data inform the definition of collective goals, actions, and ongoing monitoring.
Documentation requirements
To meet this sub-criterion, the following materials must be submitted through the LandScale platform for validation:
The baseline performance assessment report (if conducted outside of LandScale), ensuring that it evaluates the current state of the landscape, considering social, environmental, and economic dimensions.
The organization, consultant, or team responsible for conducting the assessment.
The year of completion and reporting of the baseline assessment (if conducted outside of LandScale).
Evidence of local stakeholder involvement in validating the assessment (if validated outside of LandScale).
Indication of third-party validation of the baseline assessment (optional, if validated outside of LandScale).
Indication and evidence of public reporting (if published outside of LandScale).
Validation criteria
Validation will confirm whether the following requirements have been fulfilled:
All required documentation has been submitted via the platform.
The baseline performance assessment includes data on social, environmental, and economic conditions in the landscape.
The assessment methodology and sources of data are documented.
The baseline performance assessment has been validated by local stakeholders, with evidence provided.
Baseline results are publicly reported.
Performance monitoring and reporting sub-criterion
Ongoing performance monitoring assesses landscape-scale progress against defined performance metrics and milestones for collective sustainability goals. Transparent reporting ensures accountability and fosters trust among stakeholders.
Documentation requirements
To meet this sub-criterion, the following materials must be submitted through the LandScale platform for validation:
A description of the system or tools used for performance monitoring, including:
The organization, consultant, or team responsible for monitoring.
The frequency of performance monitoring.
Documentation of the most recent repeat assessment of landscape performance (if conducted outside of LandScale).
Evidence of local stakeholder involvement in validating performance data (if validated outside of LandScale).
Indication of third-party validation of performance data (optional, if validated outside of LandScale).
Indication and evidence of public reporting ( if published outside of LandScale), including:
Reporting frequency.
Types of data shared.
Platform(s) used for reporting.
Validation criteria
Validation will confirm whether the following requirements have been fulfilled:
All required documentation has been submitted via the platform.
The performance monitoring framework tracks progress against defined sustainability goals and milestones.
The monitoring system or tools used are documented, including responsible organizations and frequency of monitoring.
Stakeholder involvement in validating monitoring results is documented.
Performance data is publicly reported.
Activity monitoring and reporting sub-criterion
Activity monitoring assesses progress in implementing the actions outlined in the collective action plan. Tracking activities ensures alignment with sustainability goals and provides insights into effectiveness and areas for improvement.
Documentation requirements
To meet this sub-criterion, the following materials must be submitted through the LandScale platform for validation:
A description of the system or tools used to monitor activities in the action plan, including:
The organization, consultant, or team responsible for monitoring the activities.
The frequency of activity monitoring.
Documentation of the most recent activity monitoring results.
Indication and evidence of public reporting, including:
Reporting frequency.
Types of data shared.
Platform(s) used for reporting.
Validation criteria
Validation will confirm whether the following requirements have been fulfilled:
All required documentation has been submitted via the platform.
The activity monitoring system provides clear, documented tracking of planned activities, including progress updates, responsible parties, and timelines.
Monitoring results are regularly reported and publicly available.
