# Alignment with governmental policies

Alignment with governmental policies helps ensure that a landscape initiative supports broader public policy goals and operates within relevant local, sub-national, and/or national regulatory frameworks. This sub-criterion evaluates whether the initiative integrates relevant environmental, social, or sustainable development priorities and policies into its approach.

## Requirements and validation criteria

To assess whether a landscape initiative seeks to align with relevant government priorities and policies, LandScale requests specific information via tailored questions. Submitted materials are used to evaluate and validate the extent to which the alignment with governmental policies sub-criterion is met.&#x20;

<table><thead><tr><th width="207">Requirements</th><th>Validation criteria</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Identification of aligned policy objectives or targets.</td><td>A clear description is provided of the policy objectives or targets with which the initiative aligns, how the initiative contributes to them, and the levels of government (local, sub-national, national) whose priorities and policies are supported by the initiative's goals and actions. </td></tr><tr><td>Evidence of alignment.</td><td>The policy objectives or targets that align with the initiative are documented. Evidence of alignment between the landscape initiative’s goals and actions and public policies at local, sub-national, and/or national levels. This could include policy documentation, reports, press releases, or other supporting materials.</td></tr><tr><td>Engagement with government actors.</td><td>Indication of the level of engagement with government actors to align with their priorities and policies.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Once validation is complete, the alignment with governmental policies sub-criterion on the wheel at the top of the initiative's profile will be filled to reflect the assigned maturity level, with validated information visible throughout the profile unless it is set to private.
