# Funding and finance strategy

A funding and finance strategy is essential for ensuring the long-term viability of a landscape initiative. It can also enhance the initiative’s appeal to companies and investors by demonstrating financial planning, risk mitigation, and long-term impact potential. This sub-criterion assesses whether the collective action plan is supported by a structured financial approach that identifies funding sources, secures diversified financial resources, and ensures sustained implementation over time.&#x20;

## Requirements and validation criteria

To assess whether a landscape initiative has a structured funding and finance strategy, LandScale requests specific information via tailored questions. Submitted materials are used to evaluate and validate the extent to which the funding and finance strategy sub-criterion is met.&#x20;

<table><thead><tr><th width="221">Requirements</th><th>Validation criteria</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Funding and finance strategy.</td><td><p>A clear description or relevant documentation of the landscape initiative's funding and finance strategy is provided. The strategy should:</p><ul><li>Align with the collective action plan.</li><li>Identify potential (preferably diversified) funding sources.</li><li>Present a long-term outlook that supports the implementation of the collective action plan. </li></ul><p>Include an indication of the time period covered by the funding and finance strategy.</p></td></tr><tr><td>Progress toward funding goal.</td><td>Indication of the total funding goal and the amount of funding secured to date, demonstrating progress toward the overall financing target.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Once validation is complete, the funding and finance strategy sub-criterion on the wheel at the top of the initiative's profile will be filled to reflect the assigned maturity level, with validated information visible throughout the profile unless it is set to private.
